Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) describes how Lawfren (a unit of Frenacademy), operating the websites lawfren.com and exams.lawfren.com (collectively, the “Site”, “Service”, “we”, “us”, “our”), collects, uses, discloses, retains, and otherwise processes information relating to users of the Site (“you”, “your”, “user”).
This Policy should be read together with our Terms of Service, including, without limitation, the clauses titled “Data Usage and Consent” and the data-retention provisions under “Termination”, which are incorporated by reference into this Policy. In the event of any conflict between this Policy and the Terms of Service on matters of data usage, consent for promotional/testimonial material, and retention timelines, the Terms of Service shall prevail to the extent of such conflict.
By accessing or using the Site, registering for any course, mock test, webinar, or resource (whether paid, free, scholarship-based, or promotional), or submitting information through any form (including Google Forms or embedded forms) on the Site, you agree to the collection, use, and disclosure of your information as described in this Policy.
1. Definitions
- “Personal Information” means any information that identifies or can reasonably be used to identify an individual, including but not limited to name, contact details, payment details, examination performance, and device information.
- “Sensitive Personal Data or Information” has the meaning assigned to it under the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011 (“SPDI Rules”), and includes financial information such as bank account or payment instrument details, to the extent collected by us.
- “Services” means all products, courses, mock tests, webinars, study material, dashboards, and other resources made available through the Site.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Registration and account information: name, email address, phone number, photograph, date of birth, postal address, educational background, and login credentials.
- Payment information: billing details and payment instrument information, processed via our third-party payment gateway (we do not store full card details on our servers).
- Academic and performance information: mock test scores, ranks, percentiles, exam outcomes, course progress, and related performance data.
- Content you submit: photographs, videos, audio recordings, testimonials, success stories, interview recordings, feedback, comments, queries, and any material uploaded through forms on the Site, including Google Forms or embedded forms.
- Communications: correspondence with us via email, contact forms, or customer support channels.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device and usage information: IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, login timestamps, number and identity of devices used to access your account (relevant to the two-device access limit described in our Terms of Service), and pages viewed.
- Cookies and similar tracking technologies, as described in Section 6 below.
2.3 Information from Third Parties
- Where permitted by law, we may receive information about you from examination authorities, payment processors, analytics providers, and other third parties, including publicly released examination results and ranks.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above for the following purposes:
- To create and administer your account and provide access to purchased or registered Services.
- To process payments, refunds (where applicable under our Return Policy), and billing.
- To deliver, personalise, and improve our courses, mock tests, and study materials.
- To monitor account usage and enforce the device-access and usage restrictions set out in our Terms of Service, and to detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, account-sharing, or unauthorised access.
- To communicate with you regarding your account, transactions, course updates, examination schedules, and customer support queries.
- For internal research, statistical analysis, and reporting on student performance and outcomes.
- For marketing, promotional, and testimonial purposes, strictly in accordance with Section 5 below and the “Data Usage and Consent” clause of our Terms of Service.
- To comply with applicable law, regulatory requests, and legal process, and to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
4. Legal Basis for Processing
We process Personal Information on the basis of: (a) your consent, given by using the Site, registering for Services, or submitting forms; (b) the necessity of processing to perform our contractual obligations to you; (c) compliance with applicable law; and (d) our legitimate business interests, including fraud prevention, service improvement, and marketing of our Services, provided such interests are not overridden by your rights under applicable law.
5. Marketing, Testimonials, and Promotional Use
As set out in our Terms of Service, by using the Site, our platforms, or any forms made available on lawfren.com and exams.lawfren.com, you grant us the right to use submitted information, including your name, photograph, video, audio, rank, marks, percentile, percentage, college admitted into, course enrolled, success story, test performance, interview recordings, and exam outcome, for internal research, testimonials, and marketing purposes, including statistical and public ranking disclosures, for so long as permitted under the Terms of Service.
This includes the right to edit, crop, resize, format, combine, reproduce, retouch, AI-enhance, and otherwise modify such material without further approval. Such modifications may include, without limitation, improving image or video quality, correcting lighting, color, or background, removing or replacing backgrounds, enhancing clarity, and digitally adding, removing, or modifying clothing, branding, logos, accessories, or other visual elements (including adding a Lawfren-branded T-shirt or other Lawfren branding), provided that such modifications do not materially misrepresent your identity, examination results, academic achievements, statements, or testimonials.
You further acknowledge and agree that promotional material incorporating such submitted information, whether in its original or modified form, may continue to be displayed, reproduced, distributed, and reused for the duration specified in the “Termination” clause of our Terms of Service (currently, three years from your last interaction with the relevant Service), subject to the removal process and exceptions described therein.
If you object to such use, you must notify us in writing at admin@lawfren.com. Your objection will be processed in accordance with the timelines, procedures, and exceptions set out in our Terms of Service.
6. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to operate the Site, remember your preferences, authenticate your login session, enforce device-access limits, and analyse traffic and usage patterns through analytics tools. You may disable cookies through your browser settings; however, doing so may affect your ability to access certain features of the Site, including login and course access.
7. Sharing and Disclosure of Information
We may share your Personal Information with:
- Service providers who perform functions on our behalf, including payment gateways, cloud hosting and storage providers, email/SMS communication tools, form and survey tools (e.g., Google Forms and similar embedded tools), and analytics providers. These providers are authorised to use your information only as necessary to provide services to us.
- Examination authorities and academic institutions, where relevant to verifying results, ranks, or admissions for the purposes described in our Terms of Service.
- Legal and regulatory authorities, where required to comply with applicable law, a court order, or governmental request, or to protect our rights, property, or safety, or that of our users or the public.
- Successors, in connection with any merger, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of assets, subject to the acquiring entity agreeing to handle your information consistent with this Policy.
We do not sell your Personal Information to unrelated third parties for their independent marketing purposes.
8. Data Retention
We retain Personal Information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Policy, including:
- For the duration of your active relationship with us and for a reasonable period thereafter (determined by terms of service), to marketing, testimonials, promotional efforts, billing, address account or service disputes;
- Examination performance, rank, and result data, which may be retained indefinitely for academic record-keeping, statistical, and verification purposes, noting that such results are frequently public records released by examining authorities;
- Promotional and testimonial material, for the period specified under the “Termination” clause of our Terms of Service;
- Information required to be retained under applicable law, including for tax, accounting, or evidentiary purposes; and
- Information necessary to resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, or defend against legal claims.
Where retention is no longer necessary for these purposes, we will use reasonable efforts to delete or anonymise the relevant Personal Information.
9. Minors / Users Below 18 Years of Age
Lawfren’s Services are primarily directed at students preparing for post graduate law entrance examinations (such as NLSAT, DET, NAIET, and similar examinations), a significant proportion of whom may be minors under applicable Indian law.
If you are below the age of 18, you may access and use the Services only with the involvement, supervision, and consent of a parent or legal guardian. By registering an account, making a payment, or submitting any form on behalf of a minor, the parent or legal guardian represents and warrants that they have the authority to provide such consent on the minor’s behalf, including consent for the collection, use, and disclosure of the minor’s Personal Information, examination performance, and related materials as described in this Policy and our Terms of Service, and that they have reviewed both documents.
10. Your Rights and How to Exercise Them
Subject to applicable law, you may request to:
- Access the Personal Information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate or outdated Personal Information; and
- Request deletion of Personal Information that is no longer necessary for the purposes for which it was collected.
10.1 How to Submit a Request
Requests must be submitted in writing to admin@lawfren.com from your registered email address, clearly describing the request.
10.2 Verification
To protect your account and Personal Information from unauthorised or fraudulent access, correction, or deletion requests, we may require you to verify your identity (for example, by confirming registered account details) before processing any request. We reserve the right to decline a request where we are unable to reasonably verify the identity of the requester.
10.3 Processing Time
We will endeavour to acknowledge and act on verified requests within a reasonable period, generally not exceeding 30 days, depending on the nature, complexity, and volume of the request.

10.4 Exceptions
We may retain and continue processing Personal Information notwithstanding a deletion request, to the extent permitted by applicable law, where such retention is necessary to:
(a) comply with a legal, regulatory, tax, or accounting obligation; (b) establish, exercise, or defend legal claims; (c) maintain academic, evidentiary, or archival records, including examination results, ranks, and performance data (which may independently exist as public records released by examination authorities); (d) complete a transaction for which the information was collected, including pending payments, refunds, or billing disputes; (e) detect, investigate, or prevent fraud, account misuse, or violations of our Terms of Service; or (f) honour the promotional/testimonial use period and process described in Section 5 of this Policy and the “Termination” clause of our Terms of Service.
Nothing in this Section requires us to recall, modify, or destroy previously distributed printed publications, archived materials maintained for legal or evidentiary purposes, or third-party publications or social media shares beyond our reasonable control, consistent with our Terms of Service.
10.5 No Guarantee of Outcome
Submission of a request does not guarantee that the specific outcome sought (e.g., complete deletion) will be granted, where retention is justified under Section 10.4 or otherwise required by law. We will, where we decline a request in whole or in part, provide a brief explanation of the applicable exception.
11. Data Security
We implement reasonable security practices and procedures, consistent with the SPDI Rules, to protect Personal Information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. As noted in our Terms of Service, your content (excluding payment information) may be transmitted unencrypted over various networks; payment information is encrypted in transit.
12. Third-Party Tools and Links
The Site may incorporate optional third-party tools, plugins, or services (including form, scheduling, and analytics tools), and may contain links to third-party websites. We do not control and are not responsible for the privacy practices, content, or security of such third-party tools or websites. Your use of any third-party tool or website is at your own risk, and you should review the privacy policy of any third party before providing information to it.
13. Storage and Location of Data
Personal Information collected through the Site is generally hosted on cloud infrastructure located within India. We do not currently undertake routine cross-border transfer of Personal Information; if this changes, we will update this Policy accordingly.

15. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to update, change, or replace any part of this Policy by posting updates to the Site. It is your responsibility to periodically review this Policy. Your continued use of the Site or Services following any such update constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.
16. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
This Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Any disputes arising out of or in connection with this Policy shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka, consistent with the governing law provisions of our Terms of Service.
